چکیده
Sir Francis Galton [5] was a British science writer and amateur researcher of the late nineteenth century. He contributed greatly to the fields of statistics, experimental psychology and biometry. In the history of biology, Galton is widely regarded as the originator of the early twentieth century eugenics movement [6]. Galton published influential writings on nature versus nurturein human personality traits, developed a family study method to identify possible inherited traits, and devised laws of genetic inheritance prior to the rediscovery of Gregor Mendel?s work. His most important contribution to the field of embryology [7] was his work in statistical models of heredity.

The puzzle of nongenetic variance
Within the past decade, empirical findings in behavior genetics have importantly changed how researchers in this field think heredity and environment affect individual differences in mental ability. These insights are hardly new. Some are even found in the writings of Sir Francis Galton (1822-1911), the father of behavior genetics. But the recognition, formalization, and empirical support given...

In 1865, Sir Francis Galton (1822–1911) formally described the differences between identical (monozygotic, MZ) and fraternal (dizygotic, DZ) twins, and suggested that MZ twins were genetically identical (Galton, 1865). This distinction yields a natural experiment, because comparison of the similarity of these two types yields information about the relative importance of heredity versus environm...

متن کاملBrain size and cognitive ability: Correlations with age, sex, social class, and race.
Using data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), autopsy, endocranial measurements, and other techniques, we show that (1) brain size is correlated with cognitive ability about .44 using MRI; (2) brain size varies by age, sex, social class, and race; and (3) cognitive ability varies by age, sex, social class, and race. Brain size and cognitive ability show a curvilinear relation with age, incr...
